Antonette’s Story "I'm finally sleeping through the night and even wake up on my back."

I’m a retired registered nurse and passionate about cooking and entertaining friends and family at home. I never slept well and was always tired, so about 11 years ago my doctor suggested a sleep study which revealed I had sleep apnea.

I was fitted for CPAP, which I used on and off for over 10 years. I never liked it. My neck hurt, my head was never in a comfortable position because of the machine, and I had soreness in my nose because of blowing air.

My pulmonologist recommended an oral appliance, so I made an appointment with the doctor he recommended and was fitted with one. It was the best thing I ever did. I’m finally sleeping through the night and even wake up on my back — which is something that never happens to you when you have sleep apnea. That itself means I’m sleeping well.

Now I’m more energetic, my spirits and concentration have improved, and people even say I look thinner. But most importantly, because I’m more present and alert I feel more connected to my family. We stay up and watch movies, crochet, do puzzles and play cards or board games together. I also enjoy doing needlework for my family and am currently working on a blanket.

I’ve also taking more walks with my husband. We often walk a full 2 miles around Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park to enjoy some peace and quiet by the water. I love living on Long Island, New York. It has the best of everything: the weather, the four seasons, the beaches, the parks.

Sleeping well again has given me the energy to enjoy my life more.

Location Guide: Montauk is a quintessential beach getaway for land-locked urban dwellers which offers sea and sand without the crowds. The area is symbolized by the 200-year-old Montauk Point Light lighthouse, one of the first in American history.

Comment from Antonette's Dentist
In July 2016, Antoinette presented in our office with chronic fatigue, difficulty sleeping, and excessive daytime sleepiness. After receiving her Respire Blue oral appliance, Antoinette has had a dramatic improvement. At her most recent visit she said she is sleeping through the night, which she has not done in years, along with feeling and looking amazingly well, adding that her husband is also sleeping better. Another happy patient.
